Collecting your worm casting can be difficult if you have all your worms in a bin. The idea of a vertical rise worm farm is that you make your worms travel up through your trays, which has a metal 1/4″ hardware cloth that the worms can move through. After your worms have moved up to the 4th feeding tray, you can harvest the bottom tray easily without having to sort through your black gold (your worm casting) and the worms themselves.

Why Collect Worm Castings?
Worm castings, also called worm humus or worm manure, is created from the breakdown of organic matter by an earthworm. I call it “black gold”. Worm casting is one of the best fertilizers that you can put on your plants, and enrich your soil with beneficial microbes that helps strengthen your plants. There are a variety of ways you can use your worm castings, such as making worm compost tea. See this video below on the positive effects of compost tea on your plants.
